GARFIELD-PALOUSE SCHOOL DELAY / CLOSURE PROCEDURES

Due to the uncertainty of the Palouse and our rural conditions during the winter months, emergency bus routes have been established and the following protocols will be followed in case of late starts and/or cancellations.  Buses will not operate any roads that are not safely passable.  When implemented, emergency bus route status will be in effect for all bus routes in the Garfield-Palouse Cooperative districts for both morning and after-school routes.

TWO HOURS LATE – PLOWED ROADS

Buses will not operate any roads that are not safely passable by school buses.

Note:  There will be NO Preschool in Garfield,  NO Preschool in Palouse, NO Zero Hour Classes,  NO Kindergarten in Garfield,  NO Breakfast

AFTER SCHOOL – PLOWED ROADS:

Buses will not operate on any roads that are not safely passable by school buses.

5:40-6:00 ACTIVITY ROUTE

Will run as normal on 2 hr late days; however, practice and study hall will be cancelled if we close school during the day or it is decided that the roads will not be safe by 6:00 pm.

EMERGENCY CLOSURES DURING THE SCHOOL DAY

A)  Pre School & Kindergarten – Parents will be notified of the emergency closing of school through the school emergency notification system.  Students will be dropped off at the normal, or emergency stop unless the parent requests otherwise, there must be a visual contact to release the student.

-  If the parent cannot be reached, the school will call the alternate numbers provided to the office.  If the alternate

number(s) cannot be reached, the student will be held or returned to school.

B)  Grades 1-5 – Parents will be notified of the emergency closing of school through the school emergency alert system (Blackboard Connect / Alert Now).  Students will be dropped off at the normal, or emergency stop unless the parent requests otherwise.

-   Walking students will be released unless the parent has requested otherwise.

-   If the emergency bus stop is miles from your house, and no one is there to meet the child, we will return the

student to the school and call the alternate number(s).

C) Grades 6-12 – Students will be transported to their home town and released to walk home or be transported as usual.

-   If the emergency bus stop is miles from your house, and no one is there to meet the child, we will return the

student(s) to the school and call the alternate numbers.

Public notification will be made through area radio and television stations as early as possible so parents/guardians have an opportunity to make arrangements for their son/daughter.   NO ANNOUNCEMENT MEANS SCHOOL AS USUAL

Gar-Pal School Emergency Notification System

The Gar-Pal Emergency Notification System hosted by Blackboard Connect is a rapid communication service that allows the Garfield-Palouse Schools to contact hundreds of parents or guardians within minutes. Our district has implemented this parent/guardian notification system.  The Gar-Pal Emergency Notification System will be used to notify families regarding cancellations and weather related school delays or closures.  You may receive these notifications by phone, e-mail or SMS text messages on your phone. This notification system works even when local power, Internet or school phone lines are inoperable. Recipients will see the Palouse school’s phone number (509-878-1921) on caller IDs for calls.

To replay previously received messages:  Using the phone that the message was sent to, dial 855-473-7529 and follow the prompts. The Blackboard Connect Message Retrieval system will verify your phone number and give you the option to listen to previously sent messages.

Public notification will be made through area radio and television stations as early as possible.
