A New Beginning.
When something ends, another begins.”" This statement holds true for the Garfield-Palouse FFA Chapter this week. Who this past Monday the 6th, held their annual awards banquet to wrap up another successful year. They honored over 30 members who partook in over 23 various events and competitions. For any ordinary bystander this event may be quite the spectacle. Girls in skirts and nylons, boys in collared shirts and ties, and blue corduroy jackets dotting the high school gymnasium. However, this is the norm in Garfield-Palouse. FFA is a passion instilled in students beginning as freshmen.
This is evident in the stack of awards designated only for new members, such as Creed, Rituals, First Year Member, and the Greenhand Degree. Freshmen receiving their degrees this year were Ariel Hoffman, Jesse Lopez, Katryna Newman, Matt Dymkoski, Sammi Johnson, Taylor Redman, Zack Kuehner, and Star Greenhand, Chandler Pfaff.
However, members in their second, third, and forth years of the FFA program strive to be their best as well. By participating in events such as Livestock Production, Agronomy, Agricultural Mechanics, Parliamentary Procedure, and numerous others, older members continue to dedicate themselves to the program. Another example of this would be this year’s Chapter Degree recipients; Cassie Thompson, Hannah Neibergs, Holly Leendersten, Wyatt Mitchell, and Star Chapter Farmer, Laura Anderson.
In addition, members that competed at the 2011 Washington State FFA Convention were recognized for their success. Prepared Public Speaker, Laura Anderson took first place for her speech on Wolf Management issues. Chad Redman was awarded for his efforts in the Extemporaneous Public Speaking division. Ben Weagraff received an award for performing as Gar-Pal’s lone Talent participant. J.B. Lange took 5th high individual in the Agricultural Management competition. And lastly; Adrienne Hamilton, Derrick Bosch, Emily Akin, Heidi Jamison, Jon Kuehner, Mickaila Martin, Missy Johnson, and Sarah Bofenkamp were awarded with their State Degrees.
