Regular Board Meeting

 

Board Chairman, Val Fisher, called the meeting to order at 7:15 PM.

 

In Attendance: Val Fisher, John Leendertsen, Mike White, Darin Watkins, Ken Renstrom, Craig Cochran, Paul Hendrickson, Rusty Jamison, John Orfe

 

Also in Attendance: Superintendent/Principal Bev Fox, Superintendent/Principal Zane Wells, Business Manager Frankie Swinney, and reporter Neva Kuehner

 

Guests: Noel Akins, Buddy Carter, Warren and Kelly Neal, Sean Neal

 

The recommendation to hire Katherina French at the Daycare was added to the Consent Agenda.

Accounts Payable: General Fund: Vouchers 18667-18748 and Warrants 33750-33829 in the amount of $77,578.95. ASB Fund: Vouchers 3158-3170 and Warrants 3158-3170 in the amount of $8,767.84

 

It was moved by John Leendertsen and seconded by Mike White to approve the Consent Agenda including the hiring of Sheilagh Hallagan/Preschool Para-educator and Katherina French/Daycare worker.

 

The minutes of the August meeting were approved with the correction noted by Darin Watkins to reflect in the August minutes, “mark the end of bleacher payments.”

 

Business Manager, Frankie Swinney read the financial report to the Board.

 

Superintendent/Principal Bev Fox updated the Board on the upper gym repairs.  Board members were encouraged to E-mail Mrs. Fox with questions they would like answered by the architects. 

 

Superintendent/Principal Bev Fox presented the Basic Education Compliance Requirement Report.

Regular Joint Meeting

 

Board Chairman, Ken Renstrom, called the Joint meeting to order at 7:35PM.

 

In Attendance: Val Fisher, John Leendertsen, Mike White, Darin Watkins, Ken Renstrom, Craig Cochran, Paul Hendrickson, Rusty Jamison, John Orfe

 

Also in Attendance: Superintendent/Principal Bev Fox, Superintendent/Principal Zane Wells, Business Manager Frankie Swinney, and reporter Neva Kuehner

 

Guests: Noel Akins, Buddy Carter, Warren and Kelly Neal, Sean Neal

 

Sean Neal recited the speech he will present at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.  After the speech Board members where invited to ask Sean questions about his speech.

 

Craig Cochran moved and Mike White seconded the motion to approve the Consent Agenda including the following items: Transportation Supervisor-Connie Newman, MS Volleyball coach-Camille Rupp, MS Cheer Advisor-Camille Rupp, Approval of the minutes from the August 2007 Joint Board meeting.  Approval of Extra-Curricular, Supplemental, Certified, and Teacher Contracts.  Motion Carries

 

Principal Fox reported that Katie Redman has been named as a semi-finalist for the National Merit Scholarship Program.  Mrs. Fox stated that we had quite a few participate at the Fair this year.

 

Principal Zane Wells reported that Magazine Sale fundraiser will start September 27, 20007.  The Garfield Elementary will be hosting Special Person Day on October 5, 2007.

 

The Garfield and Palouse School Improvement Plans were presented to the individual Boards for approval.  It was moved by Rusty Jamison to approve Garfield’s School Improvement Plan.  Craig Cochran seconded the motion.  Motion passes.  John Leendertsen moved to approve the School Improvement Plan for Palouse.  Val Fisher seconded the motion.  Motion passes.

 

The Board discussed the list of Fund Raisers brought to the Board for approval.  Board members showed concern that the Fund Raising efforts not overwhelm the communities. Rusty Jamison moved to approve the Fund Raising list for the 2007-2008 school year.  Craig Cochran seconded the motion.  Motion carries.

 

Superintendent/Principal Bev Fox went presented the first section of Garfield-Palouse Policies to the Board.  The Board briefly looked over each of the policies in this section and Mrs. Fox pointed out the new policies.  The boards will be presented with these policies for the approval at the October meeting.

 

Noel Akin presented a WASL report to the Board.  The report detailed the WASL results for Garfield-Palouse.

 

Superintendent/Principal Bev Fox and Zane Wells presented the enrollment numbers as of September 11, 2007.  Palouse reported a head count of 205.  Garfield reported a head count of 106.

 

With there being no further business the Joint board was called toadjournment at 10:30 PM.
