Regular Board Meeting

Board Chairman Kent Keller called the meeting to order at 7:02 P.M. 

In Attendance: Kent Keller, Val Fisher, John Leendertsen, Craig Cochran, Jill Palmer, and Ken Renstrom.

 

Also in Attendance: Superintendent/Principal Bev Fox, Superintendent/Principal Bill LaMunyan, Business Manager Trainee Frankie Swinney, and Reporter Neva Kuehner.

 

Guests: Amberly Kent

 

Superintendent/Principal Bev Fox asked that surplus sale items be added under New Business.

 

Accounts Payable:

General Fund: Vouchers 17388-17447 Warrants 30604-30663 in the amount of $52,778.75

 

ASB: Vouchers 2857-2868 Warrants 2857-2868 in the amount of $4,493.51

 

Payroll: Warrants  30535-30603 in the amount of $129,259.59

 

It was moved by John Leendertsen to approve the Consent Agenda including the minutes of the September Board meeting.  Val Fisher seconded the motion.  Motion passes.

 

Superintendent/Principal Bev Fox read the financial report to the Board.

Superintendent/Principal Bev Fox asked the Board to approve 3 pallets of miscellaneous non-working computer parts to be sold at a surplus sale.  John Leendertsen moved to approve the items for sale.  Val Fisher seconded the motion.  Motion carries.

With there being no further business the meeting was called to recess at 7:10 P.M.

Regular Board Meeting

 

Board Chairman, Craig Cochran, called the Garfield Board to order at 7:15 P.M.

 

In Attendance: Craig Cochran, Jill Palmer, Ken Renstrom, Kent Keller, Val Fisher, and John Leendertsen.

 

Also in Attendance: Superintendent/Principal Bev Fox, Superintendent/Principal Bill LaMunyan, Business Manager Trainee Frankie Swinney, and Reporter Neva Kuehner.

Regular Joint Board Meeting

Board Chairman, Kent Keller, called the regular Joint Board meeting to order at 7:30 P.M.

In Attendance: Kent Keller, Val Fisher, John Leendertsen, Mike Dymkoski Craig Cochran, Jill Palmer, Ken Renstrom, and Rusty Jamison

Also in Attendance: Superintendent/Principal Bev Fox, Superintendent/Principal Bill LaMunyan, Business Manager Trainee Frankie Swinney, and Reporter Neva Kuehner

Guests: Amberly Kent, Tim Coles, Paul Hendrickson, and Ed Griner

 

It was moved by Jill Palmer to approve the minutes of the September Joint Board meeting as well as the hiring of Mike Allen for the positions of MS Annual Advisor and Head MS Drama Advisor, Phil Weagraff for MS Assistant Drama Advisor, Chris Roper as a volunteer for HS boys basketball, and Laura Neal as a volunteer Garfield Elementary teacher’s aid.  Craig Cochran seconded the motion.  Motion passes.

 

Principal Bill LaMunyan reported that the Middle School held their first rec. night on October 21st.  Mr. LaMunyan stated that they had good participation. 

Principal Bev Fox reported that the High School ASB will sponsor a spaghetti dinner on October 28, 2005 to benefit the hurricane Katrina victims.

The Elementary will be hosting the Missoula Children’s Theatre on November 12th.  The Elementary is celebrating Red Ribbon Week and have been enjoying events planned by counselor Diane Loock.

 

Kent Keller opened the Long Range planning discussion by saying that we need to be very clear about what we want to accomplish with this exercise.  Both Superintendents reported to the Boards what the projected enrollment looked like in their respective buildings through the 2009-2010 school year.  Both Boards agreed that the information concerning declining enrollment and possible classroom reconfigurations should get out to the community.  There was discussion of a possible work session taking place early next year.

 

Superintendent/Principal Bill LaMunyan reported that the Middle School gym ceiling is 100% structurally.  He stated they are still working on a design for attic access.

 

Superintendent/Principal Fox reported that there still has yet to be a verdict in the upper gym lawsuit.

 

Superintendent/Principal Fox stated that the Palouse school is working on reading assessments and interventions.  The Palouse school is utilizing money from the Ideas grant to order new testing and intervention materials. 

Superintendent/Principal Bev Fox and Superintendent/Principal Bill LaMunyan told the Joint Board that they have both sent letters out to the families in their districts informing them that both buildings will be turning down their thermostats this winter in order to conserve on heating costs.  The letter also asks parents to please send their children in layers.  The Superintendent’s also stated that the two schools are also minimizing electrical costs by turning equipment and lights off when not in use.

Superintendent/Principal Bill LaMunyan brought the Emergency Bus Routes for the Garfield and Palouse districts to the Joint Board for approval.  The plan states that when the busses are running on emergency routes only they will pick children up on State Highways and the Elberton road.  On 2-hour delay days, busses will pick children up on State Highways, the Elberton road, and paved plowed county roads.  John Leendertsen moved to approve the routes.  Craig Cochran seconded the motion.  Motion passes.
