Suggestions for Parents
- Make sure your son/daughter gets plenty of rest and eats a nutritious breakfast each day.
- Teach your son/daughter
to budget time and energy so that homework can be completed to the best
of his/her ability and turned in on time.
- Ask your student to describe his/her homework responsibilities to you every day. You can
check your student's assignment book to view the assignments he/she has
written there. Sixth grade students are required to write their
assignments for each class in their assignment books, and seventh and
eighth graders are encouraged to do so.
- Discuss your student's
assignments with him/her. Have him/her show you work that is finished or is in progress.
- Praise your student for demonstrating a strong work ethic and putting forth his/her best effort.
- If your student has no
homework assigned, encourage him/her to read in the book that has been
selected for Accelerated Reader. Part of each student's quarter
grade in Language Arts is based on the percentage of his/her individual
AR point goal he or she achieved during the nine-week period. The goals are
based on each student's reading level and thirty minutes of reading per
day. Students are required to read silently from 11:00 -- 11:15
A.M. each day; they also need to read at home in order to achieve their
AR goals.
